Scripture: Colossians 3:8–11
8 “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.”
9 “Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,”
10 “and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,”
11 “where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.”
Exposition
- The metaphor shifts to clothing — we are called to “put off” sinful behaviors.
- Emphasis on speech — our words reflect our inner nature (cf. James 3).
- “New man…renewed in knowledge” (v.10) — transformation comes through the Word of God.
- “Christ is all and in all” (v.11) — a reminder of spiritual equality and unity in Christ.
Application
- Holiness is not just internal but relational — it changes how we treat others.
- In Christ, all racial, social, and cultural barriers are removed.
