Scripture: Colossians 3:5–7
5 “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
6 “Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,”
7 “in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.”
Exposition:
1. “Put to death” (v.5) — a call to radical action, echoing Jesus’ teaching on cutting off sin (cf. Matt 5:29).
2. The list includes both acts (fornication) and attitudes (evil desire).
3. “Covetousness = idolatry” — misdirected worship; craving replaces Christ.
4. “You once walked…” (v.7) — a reminder that this was our past, not our present.
Application:
- Christians must deal decisively with sin, not manage it.
- Revival begins with repentance and crucifying the flesh.
